breaking free from body shame
When we talk about a negative attitude
towards our body, we cannot ignore the most
difficult subject to bring up: shame for our
appearance. Behind the phrases "I feel fat", "I
feel ugly", there is often a strong sense of
shame that is difficult to verbalize. in
childhood, a person first thinks about his
appearance. Children see themselves
through the prism of parental opinions, love,
approval. They perceive critical opinions as
censorship, and if it is considered normal in
the family, then they will accept themselves
that way - it is very critical. Physical
appearance and weight are perhaps among
the most popular targets of shame in modern
society. Surrounded by images of ideal
bodies in magazines, advertisements, and
movies, many of us cannot calmly look at our
imperfect bodies.
